The Xiaomi Mi A1 is the company’s first foray into the Android One program. We felt the combination of Xiaomi’s hardware and Google’s Android One software was a “delight” and it provided customers an affordable smartphone with a stock Android experience. Owners have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Android Pie OTA update, but while that has yet to arrive, it is currently being beta tested and we have the download link for those who want to try out the major new update.

Yesterday, we covered the launch of the Nokia 8.1 as a smartphone from HMD Global that is also part of the Android One program. Nokia fans will be very familiar with this device as it is simply a re-branded version of the Nokia X7 that is currently being sold in China. The same thing happened with the Xiaomi Mi A1 as it is a re-branded version of the Xiaomi Mi 5X. Those who wanted all of the features that come with MIUI can purchase the Mi 5X, but if you wanted the stock Android experience then it was the Mi A1 that you were after.

Earlier this year we had unofficial ports of Android Pie released for the Mi A1 from Xiaomi and many of us have been grateful for those community developers who brought the new update to the Xiaomi device so quickly. However, it’s completely understandable that some people aren’t fans of these early ports even if all of the hardware has been tested and shown to be working. For those who waited, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is now receiving its Pie beta test. Unless you’re in the beta program you’ll be stuck waiting even longer for the stable version to be released.

However, if you’re ready to dive into the early build then you can grab the ZIP from the download link below.
