Marisa Munoz, 8, died in the mobile home fire in Sunland Park, N.M. on Dec. 13, 2018. She was a third grade student at Desert View Elementary.

Two suspects charged in connection with the death of 8-year-old Marisa Munoz were indicted by a grand jury.

Jocelyn Ontiveros and Carlos Holguin are facing eight counts of aggravated arson, three counts of child abuse that resulted in death and one count of tampering with evidence, according to the Dona Ana County District Attorney’s office.

A grand jury indicted them Friday in the death of Marisa, who was fatally injured in a mobile home fire at 108 Mesquite Drive in Sunland Park, New Mexico, on Dec. 13.

Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set.

The fire badly burned four adults and children who were able to escape the burning home.

Leading the investigation is the New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office, in conjunction with the Sunland Park Police Department; with support from the New Mexico State Police and Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are seeking justice for the life of Marisa Muñoz — she was an innocent in this crime — and for the family,” said District Attorney Mark D’Antonio. “The supporting evidence will be presented in court, and our office will prosecute to the full extent of the law. We are committed to protecting our innocent children and families.”
